Worship

The mission of Lyke House: The Catholic Center at the AUC is to establish spiritual, academic, and faith development for the Atlanta University Center family, with a spirit of Christian love and service in the Black Catholic tradition of Campus Ministry.

Lyke House approaches the spiritual and faith development for the AUC family in a unique way.  As Fr. Branch often replies, “This ain’t yo mama’s Church!”  Each worship service and opportunity offered at Lyke House encourages the congregation to fully participate in the service, while urging them to recall the history and culture of their African Catholic Christian ancestors.

By involving students in the liturgical planning process and having them serve in the worship services, Lyke House ensures that the people gathered respond to the Mass as a congregation, and not as an audience.  From the direction of the Schola Cantorum, to the exciting homilies of Fr. Branch, members of the AUC family are fully engaged at all times during the celebration of the mystery of the Eucharist.  Mass is often filled with the sounds of drums and a sundry of African instruments that embody the sankofa spirit – moving those gathered in the Chapel to take the best from their past in order to have a fruitful future.
