Catholic Chaplain for the AUC

Father Edward Branch

Fr. Branch is presently the Catholic Chaplain for the AUC, which consists of a cluster of historically African American institutions of higher education that boasts the largest concentration of scholars of African heritage in the world. He completed his Doctor of Ministry program at the Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C., and following his six year tenure there, served as University Chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Fr. Branch also served in similar capacities at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. As a priest from the Archdiocese of Louisville, KY, Fr. Branch has been the Catholic Chaplain for the AUC since 1990.

Ms. Chandra J. Johnson, Campus Minister

Chandra J. Johnson is a campus ministry volunteer at the Lyke House.  She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology with a concentration in African American Studies in 1996.  After graduation she remained at Notre Dame as a campus minister for African American students, eventually becoming an advisor to the University President in 1998.  Chandra was appointed Associate Director of Campus Ministry at Notre Dame in 2005.  Two years later, she became the executive director for philanthropic organization in Northern Virginia and worked there for three years.  Chandra is retired and cares for her ailing fiancé while completing a biography of her father she has researched for the past eight years.  Her greatest joy, however, is spending time with her grandchildren in Southern California.  A native of Los Angeles, Chandra is 58 years old and currently lives in Suwanee, Georgia.

Mr. Ashley Morris
Assistant Campus Minister for Evangelization and Programs

Mr. Ashley Morris

Mr. Ashley Morris serves as the Assistant Campus Minister of Evangelization and Programs at the Lyke House Catholic Center. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media Arts with a Concentration in Radio, TV, and Film from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA in May 2005. Mr. Morris is also a former Lyke House Ministry Assistant (Fall 2003 – Spring 2005), and has served as an adult chaperon for the ORACLE National Summer Institute for Youth, based in Washington, D.C., under the direction of Sr. Oralisa Martin. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Theology degree from the Institute of Black Catholic Studies of Xavier University in New Orleans, LA.
